Photoreceptors in the eye- “rods and cones” is basis for a modernist language of form activated in relation to the body and secondary senses. The “rods” are lightning rods; a material that transmits; an electrical charge. The combinations of lengths and angles can be reconfigured by viewers in innumerable combinations.
A cast ellipsoid form has an unevenly distributed center of balance. The piece is a distracted object. It would seems to suggest perpetual motion, but instead wobbles unsteadily from built momentum and eventually reverses suddenly.

These works perform the function of abstraction - visually and informationally. They reduce forms to geometric shapes, lines, and colors; incorporating a stripped down vocabulary of form and banal found products of consumer culture. Suspension lends to defamiliarization of these objects, transforming the quotidian into abstractions, while naming the objects brings out the arbitrariness of the process of signification. The works play against a dynamic of what feels right formally, and the rigor of a correct or formalized structure.
